At the present time it is difficult to conceive our life without PCs. We use them at work and for entertainment. Communication with people, listening to music, watching films, playing games and numerous other operations are presented by personal computers. Personal computers are strongly linked to digital data. Information is usually stored on the hard disk of the personal computer, but it's highly recommended to get a copy of all the essential information on other data storage medium. It will guarantee the security of this information in case of problems with the HD. There are a few types of recording media. The most popular of them are magnetic tapes, hard disc, compact and digital versatile disks and flash memory disks. All these media have their own pluses and minuses. It is up to you to decide what recording medium to select to store your backup information. Magnetic tape used to represent the most widespread medium for data storage. It constitutes an access medium, so the access time is slower than if you use HD. But at the same time continuous writing and reading are much faster. With the invention of new information mediums floppy disks have become obsolete, but nevertheless they are in use in special situations, as they are the most reliable information media. One more type of data storage media is optical disc backup system, generally called compact disks and digital video discs. This system is effective and easy in application. An essential advantage of these discs is that information can be saved to and read from these discs practically on any computer with a typical CD-ROM and DVD-ROM drive. Flash memory disk backup system, including USB drives, Memory Stick and SmartMedia and others, constitutes the next step of information storage development. These gadgets are portable, easy to apply and able to store a lot of info. All the modern personal computers possess facilities to read data from these disks. Their only minus is high price in comparison to magnetic tapes and optical disks. But at the same time flash disk system is the most reliable and convenient data storage medium.
